Weekend Adventures

We had a great weekend and didnt even mind all the rain. The cooler temps are amazing! We went to my moms place in the country and Mr Ladybug was mowing her yard and I saw him get off the riding mower. He was looking at the ground and then was trying to catch something. I was so excited and I didnt even know what he was trying to catch. It was a big frog but it got away. Luckily for me he caught a smaller one later and brought it to me. Later we were walking and spotted this spotted frog. I had so much fun trying to catch it myself. Luckily Mr Ladybug wear a hat and we were able to catch it together. I felt like a little girl again trying to catch frogs and laughing.  You should definitely add frog chasing to your bucket list if you havent done it in a while.

I found out that my parents had a crab apple tree. This excited me to no end. I am definitely going to get the stuff together to can some in the next few weeks. Momma if you are reading this be prepared to can some crab apples. We also plan on getting some persimmons if the squirrels dont steal them all and maybe some walnuts.

Then there was a little humming birds and the Eastern Phoebe. I didnt even know the Phoebe existed. Another exciting moment. Have you noticed how excited I get? Maybe I need meds or maybe people need to be more excited about little things. If I could encourage people to do one thing is to go on adventures. Explore the world around you. That could be in your own backyard and putting up a bird feeder and count how many different birds you see or traveling to the ends of the earth. Whatever it is have fun.

We had the simplest and most tasty dinner Saturday night and followed it with a trip to Dairy Queen for ice cream cones. Being in the country is a little shocking when you want to do something spontaneous like grab ice cream comes. We had to drive like 20 miles. As city people we are  use to being 5 minutes away from just about anything we want to do. But I think by the looks on our faces the 20 mile drive was worth it.

Orange Glazed Pork Chops with Spinach Salad

20 oz of pork chops
1 TBS dijon mustard
6 TBS Orange Marmalade
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 teaspoon

For salad

 8 cups Spinach or arugala
1/2 cup chopped red onion
1 cup chopped walnuts

Mix the marmalade and mustard together and set aside
Heat oil in pan over medium high heat  and cook pork 3 minutes on each side. Cover with a lid when you flip them. A meat thermometer should read 145 degrees when they are done. Once done set aside.

Add marmalade mixture to the pan and scrap all the brown bits from the pork off the botton it takes about a minute to do this and heat up the mixture.

Spoon the mixture over pork but leave about half of it for your salad dressing. Once pork is glazed add 2 tablespoons of apple cider or balsamic vinegar to pan and mix well. Spoon this mixture over the salad.
As you can see I added apples to our salads. This was a last minute decision and I will probably add orange or mandarin slices to it next time.

I really want to make a quilt. I really have way to many irons in the fire these days to give a quilt the time and energy it deserves soooooo I decided to compromise and make one quilt block by hand once a month starting in October. To celebrate Halloween and my favorite black cat Socks I will make a black cat quilt block. The idea is to have 12 quilt blocks completed by this time next year and maybe I will be able to add some other blocks and get at least a twin sized quilt. If you would like to join me on this adventure I will post the quilt block info on the blog. I would love love love, like get so exited love to see your quilt blocks as well.
